SommDay School Online Service Course


Our ONLINE SommDay School™ Service course is a 7-hour course designed for students in the food, beverage, and hospitality industry who desire to learn proper wine service. This online sommelier service course was developed by Master Sommelier Tim Gaiser and Napa Valley Wine Academy. The goal of this 5 unit online course is to help waitstaff, bartenders, F&B managers, wine buyers, winery tasting room staff, and anyone else working in the food and wine industry to hone their service skills, as well as better prepare those interested in pursuing sommelier certification exams. For anyone outside the industry–the avid wine enthusiast–you will also benefit from this online course as it offers a taste of the life of a Sommelier.


This course provides ultimate access and flexibility with 6 months of access. The course includes 7 hours of content. With 6 months of access to the course, you can learn at your own pace.

Tim Gaiser, Master Sommelier will teach you the proper service techniques and more through short video demonstrations (see sample below), online exercises, and quizzes. In this course you will learn:

  • The attitude, demeanor, and professional behavior of the Sommelier
  • Communication skills – speaking and listening with confidence
  • Service basics, mise-en-place, and more
  • Still wine service
  • Champagne service
  • Decanting red wine
  • Dealing with customer service challenges
