KOPKE
with Carla Tiago, master blender for Kopke Port Wine

Join us on Thursday, October 26th from 6-8 pm for a Port Wine, more specifically Colheita, Masterclass led by Carla Tiago, master blender for Kopke Port Wine. As the oldest Port wine house, est. 1638, Kopke has accordingly deep cellars and unmatched stocks; the House specializes in barrel-aged Ports, both Tawnies and the rare Whites, both age-stated and vintage-dated Colheitas.

Carla will taste the class through six Colheitas, both White and Tawny, including six vintages spanning 1980 to 2008. By law, Colheitas must be barrel-aged 7 years before release; Kopke always exceeds this requirement, aging its Colheitas 10 years before release, and usually much longer, as these wines are only bottled on demand (with the bottling date noted on the back label). With each successive bottling, a Colheita will have progressed further in its micro-oxidative process, meaning that not only is every harvest different, but each bottling is different, making it an endlessly fascinating category.

Kopke is, by far, the Colheita category leader in the U.S., dominating more than 65% of the market; Kopke Colheitas from as far back as the 1930s are widely available to U.S. consumers, and are highly sought after as birthday and anniversary gifts.
