  • UPON REGISTRATION (within 30 minutes after) you will receive access, via an emailed link, to the first module of your online course which contains important information. Your study packet will be mailed to you within 5 days of your registration.
  • COURSE START DATE is the date the full online course (all modules) is available to students. This is a self-paced course, accessible 24/7, with videos, interactive maps, activities, quizzes, and mock exams. 
  • WEBINARS are additional instructor-led learning tools that augment your study book and online course material and activities. See the WEBINAR tab in the first module of your online course for the webinar schedule. The first WEBINAR DATE is generally NOT the official COURSE START DATE. Webinars are taped and will will appear in your WEBINAR tab following each session. If you purchased a WINE KIT, your wine kit will arrive before your first WEBINAR DATE. If you did not purchase the wine kit, see the wine list in the first module of your course for wine recommendations (categories, not specific producers) you can purchase locally.
  • COMMUNICATE with your instructor and fellow students via (1) the webinars and (2) through an online GROUP which will appear on your dashboard, along with your online course, on the Course Start Date. The GROUP will be active during the ten-week instructor-led portion of your course.

  • What is the schedule of the WSET Level 3 Award in Wines Course?

The course is self-paced and accessible 24/7. It includes videos, interactive maps, activities, quizzes, and mock exams. Additionally, there are 5 Live Zoom Webinars, each lasting 60-90 minutes, scheduled according to the webinar chart. If you purchased a Wine Kit, it will arrive before your First Webinar Date. 

  • What are the Webinars in this course, and are they mandatory?

Webinars facilitate understanding of the online course and textbooks. They include orientation, lectures, and guided tasting. Attendance is not mandatory as all webinars are recorded and posted for viewing later.

  • How can I communicate with the instructor and other students?

Communication is possible through the Zoom Webinars and the Online GROUP Module during the ten-week instructor-led portion of the course.

  • When will I receive the links to access the online course?

Email links to the online course are sent within 30 minutes of purchase.

  • How long do I have access to the online course?

After the 10-week instructor-led course, students retain access to the online course for a full 12 months.

  • How and when will I receive the course materials?

Students in the U.S. receive the textbook and workbook within 5 days of purchase. International students receive an online eBook version.

  • What about the wine kits? When and how are they delivered?

Wine kits are shipped out the week of the course start date to arrive before the first scheduled webinar, usually the following week. Students who did not order a wine kit can find options in the course to source locally.

  • Do I need to attend the live webinars?

It’s not mandatory to attend live webinars as they are recorded and available for later viewing.

  • Is there any interactive element in the course?

Yes, the course includes interactive maps, activities, and quizzes, along with live webinars and a GROUP Module for interaction.

  • What if I can’t attend the live webinars?

If you cannot attend live, you can view the recorded versions posted after the live sessions.

This is a ten-week, self-paced course with a fixed start/end date. However you will have 12 months of access to the online learning material, providing you the flexibility to study wine in a way that fits your schedule.The Level 3 Award in Wine Online class covers the same syllabus as the classroom course but through a supported and interactive Online Classroom, which allows you to study alongside your peers under the guidance of a dedicated educator.

Please note that the exam is completed in person at one of our testing locations.  

This course provides a more in-depth wine knowledge and comprehensive look at the world of wines with an intense focus on systematically and professionally tasting wines.

With your WSET Level 3 Wine course you can choose to add a 24 bottle (100ml bottles) wine tasting kit with every enrollment, making it easy to participate in our dedicated WSET Level 3 LIVE tasting webinars and tasting exercises. Using wines from these kits, you will actively taste along with your classmates and calibrate to your WSET-Certified instructor as well as utilize wines for homework assignments. All wines included in the kits have been carefully selected by Master of Wine Peter Marks and NVWA Head of Education Catherine Bugue to match the WSET Level 3 specification and ensure you have the best opportunity to calibrate your palate for the blind tasting portion of the exam. Students are advised to taste a range of wines during their studies, beyond those in the kits. A list of recommended tasting samples can be found in the Specification.

The course also includes lecture videos from top-industry educators and interactive activities for each chapter of the book. After the ten weeks are completed, you will have access to the post-course exam prep module, which contains flashcards, a compendium of mock multiple choice and short answer questions, lecture videos and more.

To successfully obtain the WSET® Level 3 Award Certification in Wine, students must take a two-part exam: a written and tasting portion in person at one of our Level 3 testing locations.

Upon successful completion of this WSET® Level 3 Certification Course and Exam, you will have gained:

  • In-depth training on wines of the world with an understanding of the factors that influence style, quality, and price.
  • Wine knowledge applicable to sales, hospitality, and wholesale areas of the industry, but also to those wishing to gain a deeper knowledge of wines around the world.
  • An advanced Level 3 Award in Wine Certification from the WSET®
  • Ability to request and use the official logo — WSET® Certified Advanced — on your business cards, websites, and other professional material.
  • The required pre-requisite for WSET® Level 4 Diploma in Wine.

WHO CAN BENEFIT?

  • This course is ideal for anyone wishing to hold knowledge of the leading wines of the world and to master a systematic approach to tasting that lets students access their quality and price.
  • WSET Level 3 is particularly recommended to equip those employed around the world in the wine industry with the authority and confidence to make informed decisions in a wide variety of trade situations. For those in a supervisory capacity, or those wishing to advance to such a position, the course provides the skills to advise management or customers on wine selections.
  • This course is also for wine collectors or wine enthusiasts who wish to gain a better knowledge of wine to recognize varied wines around the world and the ability to access their quality and the price being asked for such wines.

Each week consists of a series of online activities, often based on group discussion, with an online tutor allocated to guide the students’ studies. Online class includes 

  • LIVE webinars and instructor support. 
  • A quiz is provided at the end of each week for students to practice for the exam and assess their understanding of that week’s topics. 
  • Tasting activities are also provided to familiarize students with the Systematic Approach to Tasting at the advanced level. 
  • 12-months of access to the online learning material
  • One exam credit valid for 12 months from the start of your online course.  The exam must be taken in person at one of our WSET Level 3 testing locations. Please note that examinations for the qualification courses are only available at the Napa Valley Wine Academy in Napa and Santa Barbara, California, with limited additional dates in FL, CO, TN, NJ.

LEVEL 3 Wines Online – The Nitty Gritty

SCHEDULE: Our unique, online program is largely self-paced, accessible 24/7, packed with video lectures, hands-on experiments, online activities, and interactive quizzes led by WSET certified educators from our award-winning school. The only ‘scheduled’ lessons are the live online (via Zoom) webinars, homework submission and feedback during the 10-week instructor-led course.

CHOOSE the 10-week Instructor-led course that works for you.  Link to the WEBINAR SCHEDULE is on the product page to help make your decision. These hour-long lessons (via Zoom) are live tasting webinars and lectures set up by your WSET instructor. If you miss the scheduled sessions, watch the recorded version posted in the “WEBINAR” module in the online course.

COMMUNICATE and taste wines with your instructor during your 10 week course and interact with your fellow students through the discussions and community forums in our online course platform.

ACCESS to the course material is for a full 12 months so you can start studying from the day of enrollment, through the instructor-led 10 weeks and be ready to pass your exam on the date and location you select.

STUDY MATERIALS:  The WSET Level 3 Wines course is supported by a study guide and workbook.  We ship out hard copy study packs to students within the continental US upon enrollment or email ebook version, if preferred.  International students are given access to an ebook online version via the WSET Global online portal (not downloadable or printable). Ebooks are accessible for 2 years through WSET Global portal.

We are happy to accommodate students wanting hardcopy options via reliable shipping channels with proven addresses. All additional fees are payable by the student and receipt only guaranteed through the Shipper (UPS, DHL, FEDEX). Contact us with a preferred shipper and address if you wish to purchase a hardcopy version.  We will vet shipping prices and time estimates best suited for delivery.

RECOMMENDED STUDY HOURS needed to pass the exam with distinction is 84 hours, made up of 32.5 Guided Learning Hours and 51.5 hours private study.

LEVEL 3 Wines EXAM must be done in person at one of our testing locations. The timed 2-part exam consists of a Blind Tasting portion evaluating 2 wines and a Theory Examination with 50 multiple choice questions and 4 Short written answer questions.  Choose the exam date and location that works best for you from our Level 3 Wine Exam Info page within one year of the course start date. Exam cost is included with the course.

PREREQUISITE: This is an advanced level course.  Students not holding WSET Level 2 Certification in wines or equivalent are invited to take the free placement test to assess their readiness via link on the main product page.

IN-PERSON COURSE & WORKSHOP REFUNDS & TRANSFERS

Cancellations of confirmed in-person course enrollments and workshops are accepted up to 60 days before the start of the course. An administration fee of $50 plus the full cost of the study materials and exam fees will be deducted, and the remainder of the course fee refunded to the payee. Separate WSET exam cancellation/transfer rules apply.
Transfers of a confirmed enrollment to another course are accepted 60 days before the course start date with an administration fee of $50.

Cancellations less than 60 days before the in-person course start date or course no shows forfeit any refund/transfer options unless students can provide medical documentation. If medical documentation is provided, students can be transferred to a later course. No refunds will be applied.

Course Transfers cannot be carried forward to the next academic year (which commenced on January 1).

Students are highly encouraged to purchase separate travel insurance.
