Argentina Wine Study Trip

March 7–13, 2027 | Mendoza, Argentina | Only 14 Spots Available

Study Argentina at the Source—During Harvest

Step into the heart of Argentina’s wine country during one of the most exciting times of the year: harvest. The Napa Valley Wine Academy Argentina Study Trip 2027 is an intimate, expertly curated educational journey through Mendoza, designed for serious wine students, sommeliers, professionals, and enthusiasts who want to experience Argentine wine beyond the classroom.

Limited to just 14 travelers, this immersive program combines hands-on harvest experience, private masterclasses, vineyard exploration, winemaker-led tastings, regional gastronomy, and direct access to some of Argentina’s most important producers. Designed especially for students pursuing WSET Levels 2–4 and aspiring sommeliers, the trip connects wine theory with the vineyards, people, soils, elevations, and winemaking decisions that define modern Argentina.

Accompanied by local wine expert Kala Parra and Christian Oggenfuss, Co-Founder and CEO of Napa Valley Wine Academy, you’ll explore both iconic estates and small boutique producers while developing a much deeper understanding of Mendoza and Argentina’s rapidly evolving wine identity.

A Unique Opportunity to Experience Harvest Firsthand

This is more than a winery tour. The program has been designed as a true wine education abroad experience, placing you in the vineyard and cellar during the active harvest season.

At Monte Quieto in Agrelo, you’ll participate in a hands-on harvest immersion, following grapes from reception and selection through the beginning stages of fermentation. A private masterclass then expands the discussion beyond Mendoza to Argentina’s diverse viticultural landscape—from the high-altitude vineyards of the north and the valleys of Cuyo to the Atlantic Coast and Patagonia—with a guided tasting of 14 wines.

The educational experience continues at Catena Zapata, beginning in the celebrated Adrianna Vineyard and continuing through the iconic "Pyramid" winery and the Catena Institute of Wine. You’ll examine ongoing viticultural research and then work directly with the component lots used in Catena Alta Malbec to create your own blend.

What Awaits You

  • Two private masterclasses exploring Argentina’s regions, terroirs, grape varieties, contemporary winemaking, and future of the industry.
  • Two days of harvest-focused education, giving you firsthand exposure to vineyard and cellar activity during the most dynamic period of the winemaking year.
  • 10 winery visits and more than 70 wines, ranging from internationally recognized estates to small, artisanal producers, with tastings led by winemakers and winery experts.
  • An in-depth Catena Zapata immersion, including Adrianna Vineyard, the Catena Institute of Wine, and a hands-on Malbec blending session.
  • A visit to Zuccardi / Piedra Infinita for a masterclass, vineyard and winery tour, expert-led tasting, and fine-dining lunch at the estate.
  • Exploration of Gualtallary and the Uco Valley, including Huentala Wines, Michelini i Mufatto, and the small artisanal estate Per Se.
  • Visits to celebrated Luján de Cuyo producers, including Achaval Ferrer and Cheval des Andes—the joint venture between Château Cheval Blanc and Terrazas de los Andes.
  • A hands-on Argentine empanada cooking class at La Morada Lodge, where you’ll prepare the dough, filling, traditional repulgue, and fire your own dinner in the lodge’s clay oven.
  • Fine dining and regional gastronomy, including five lunches, six breakfasts, winery dining experiences, and a farewell celebration.
  • A final evening celebrating Argentine culture with wine, dinner, and live tango in Mendoza.
  • Premium accommodations at Hualta Winery Hotel in Mendoza and La Morada Lodge in the vineyards of the Uco Valley, complemented by private ground transportation throughout the program.

Learn by Traveling. Discover by Tasting. Explore by Living.

By the end of the week, Argentina will no longer simply be a region you have studied on a map or tasted through a lineup of bottles. You will have walked its vineyards, experienced harvest in progress, spoken with the people shaping its wines, compared its terroirs firsthand, and explored the relationship between wine, food, landscape, and Argentine culture.

It is an opportunity to transform theoretical wine knowledge into direct regional understanding—and to experience Mendoza at one of the most compelling moments in its annual winemaking cycle.
