What is Napa Valley Wine Academy’s WSET Level 3 pass rate?

Averaged across multiple years of exam sittings, 69.5% of Napa Valley Wine Academy students pass the WSET Level 3 Award in Wines. Across our WSET programmes overall, students pass at 99% at Level 1, 97% at Level 2 and 80% across the Level 4 Diploma.

WSET Level 3 course facts

• Price: $1,099, including five live instructor-led webinars, the WSET eBook, mock exams, 12 months of platform access and your in-person exam registration
• Duration: ten weeks. WSET specifies a Total Qualification Time of 84 hours — 32.5 guided learning hours plus 51.5 hours of private study, roughly eight to ten hours a week
• Exam format: 50 multiple-choice questions and four short written-answer questions in two hours, plus a 30-minute blind tasting of two wines
• Pass mark: 55% in each component. Merit is an aggregate of 65–79%, Distinction 80% or above with no paper below 65%
• Prerequisite: WSET recommends the WSET Level 2 Award in Wines or an equivalent level of experience. Candidates sitting in English as a second language are advised to have IELTS 6.5 or above.
• Next step: Level 3 is the required entry qualification for the WSET Level 4 Diploma.

A recommended wine purchase list will be provided for this course. An optional wine kit is available as an add-on and includes 24 curated 100mL wine samples, which are tasted throughout the course. A link to purchase the kit will be included in your course registration confirmation email.
