WSET Level 2 course facts

  • Price: $679, including four live instructor-led webinars, the WSET digital textbook, 12 months of platform access and your exam registration
  • Duration: five weeks. WSET specifies a Total Qualification Time of 28 hours — 17 guided learning hours plus 11 hours of private study.
  • Tastings: 12 curated 100mL wine samples
  • Exam format: 50 multiple-choice questions in 60 minutes, taken online with remote invigilation
  • Pass mark: 55%. Merit is 70–84%, Distinction 85% or above.
  • Prerequisite: none formally, though Level 2 assumes basic wine knowledge. Students starting from scratch should consider the WSET Level 1 Award in Wines. All students must be at least 21 years of age. Candidates sitting in English as a second language are advised by WSET to have IELTS 6.0 or above.
  • Next step: the WSET Level 3 Award in Wines.

A recommended wine purchase list will be provided for this course. An optional wine kit is available as an add-on and includes 12 curated 100mL wine samples, which are tasted throughout the course. A link to purchase the kit will be included in your course registration confirmation email.

Format & Exam

This is a five-week, semi-synchronous (combination instructor-led and self-paced) course with a fixed start/end date. However, you will have 12 months of access to the online learning material, allowing you to study wine in a way that fits your schedule.

Exam Registration

A: The WSET Level 2 Award in Wines online course is a self-paced program accessible 24/7. If you cannot attend the live sessions, all webinars are recorded and posted for later viewing.

Q: How can I communicate with the instructor and other students?

A: Interaction with the instructor and fellow students is facilitated through the Zoom Webinars and the online platform. This interactive aspect is available during the five-week instructor-led portion of the course, enabling you to engage actively in your learning process.
