Csilla Kato

Born and raised in the captivating city of Budapest, Hungary, Csilla Kato discovered her passion for wine while assisting with tastings at her brother’s wine shop. This early fascination evolved into a lifelong pursuit, leading her to earn a master’s degree in Fermentation Science and Post-Harvest Technologies and embark on an international winemaking journey spanning California, Italy, Hungary, and New Zealand.

Throughout her career, Csilla has brought her technical expertise, analytical precision, and collaborative spirit to some of the wine industry’s most respected producers, including Beringer Vineyards, Stags’ Leap Winery, Schramsberg, and Davies Vineyards. She has played an integral role in strengthening these winemaking teams and has particularly relished the opportunity to work with some of Sonoma and Napa Valley’s finest fruit, deepening her appreciation for the vineyard’s role in shaping exceptional wines.

After earning her WSET Diploma in 2014, Csilla began teaching part-time at Napa Valley Wine Academy, bringing together her practical winemaking experience and passion for wine education. Since 2023, she has been a full-time member of the Academy team, serving as a lead wine educator and program curator. She teaches WSET Levels 1 through 4 both in person and online, leads educational initiatives, and designs and oversees the Academy’s immersive bootcamp experiences. Through her work, Csilla bridges the worlds of wine production and education, inspiring students around the globe to deepen their knowledge, refine their palates, and discover the complexity and diversity of wine.
