Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to finish Level 2 before starting Level 3?

You don't have to complete Level 2 to enroll in Level 3, but WSET recommends having Level 2-equivalent knowledge going in. This bundle is built for that path — you work through Level 2 first, then start Level 3 with the foundation it's built on.

When do I choose my Level 3 cohort date?

You'll select it at checkout. New cohorts start roughly every four to five weeks, so you can begin soon or pick a later date if you want more time in Level 2 first.

Is the wine tasting kit included?

No — tasting kits for both courses are optional add-ons sourced separately through our partner, Small Lot Bottles. A recommended wine list is provided if you'd rather source your own bottles locally.

How long do I have access to each course?

Level 2 gives you 12 months of course access and 1 year of WSET eBook access. Level 3 gives you 12 months of course access from the course start date and 2 years of WSET eBook access from the date you redeem book access.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What exactly does the Level 2 and Level 3 Wine Path Bundle include?

A: Two complete WSET qualifications for $1,499. You get the WSET Level 2 Award in Wines as a self-paced On-Demand course with 12 months of access, a one-year WSET eBook and your remotely proctored exam registration and fee, plus the WSET Level 3 Award in Wines as a ten-week instructor-led cohort with five live webinars, instructor-led tastings across 24 curated wines, 12 months of course access, two years of WSET eBook access and your in-person exam registration. Enroll once and both are secured.

Q: How much do I actually save?

A: $195, and here is the arithmetic so you can check it. Bought separately, the WSET Level 2 Wine Online On-Demand course is $595 and the WSET Level 3 Wine Online Instructor-Led course is $1,099, which comes to $1,694. The bundle is $1,499. You also lock in the Level 3 price on the day you enroll, so a future price increase does not reach you.

Q: Is the Level 2 in this bundle the On-Demand course or the instructor-led one?

A: On-Demand, and it is worth being clear about the difference before you buy. The Level 2 in this bundle is entirely self-paced: videos, interactive quizzes and tasting exercises you work through on your own schedule, with no live webinars and no cohort. We also sell a separate instructor-led Level 2 with live webinars at $679; if that is what you want, this bundle is not the right purchase. The Level 3 half of the bundle is fully instructor-led either way.

Q: Do I need to finish Level 2 before starting Level 3?

A: You do not have to complete Level 2 to begin Level 3, and WSET sets no mandatory prerequisite, but it recommends having Level 2-equivalent knowledge going in and so do we. This bundle is built for exactly that path: work through Level 2 first at your own pace, then start Level 3 on the foundation it gives you. Level 3 assumes you already recognize the major grape varieties and classic regions.

Q: When do I choose my Level 3 cohort date?

A: At checkout. New Level 3 cohorts start roughly every four to five weeks, so you can begin almost immediately or pick a later date to give yourself more time in Level 2 first. Your Level 2 access starts the moment you enroll regardless of which Level 3 date you choose, so there is no reason to wait before you start studying.

Q: Can I move my Level 3 cohort date after I have enrolled?

A: Yes, if you act at least 14 business days before your chosen cohort starts, and one transfer per person per course is permitted with a $50 administration fee. Inside 14 business days, or once the cohort has begun, transfers are not available. If you can see your schedule tightening, tell us early rather than late.

Q: How long do I have access to each course?

A: Level 2 gives you 12 months of course access from enrollment plus one year of WSET eBook access. Level 3 gives you 12 months of course access from your cohort start date, plus two years of WSET eBook access from the date you redeem it. Plan your Level 3 cohort inside your Level 2 access window so you are not paying twice for material you can no longer open.

Q: Are both exam fees included?

A: Yes. Registration and the exam fee are included for both qualifications - the remotely proctored Level 2 exam and the in-person Level 3 exam. There is no separate exam charge to budget for, though resit fees apply if you need to sit either exam again.

Q: How are the two exams different?

A: Substantially, and this catches people out. The Level 2 exam is multiple choice and sat remotely under proctoring at scheduled times, so you can take it from home. The Level 3 exam includes a blind tasting and therefore can only ever be taken in person, at one of our US exam locations, and must be registered at least 30 days before your chosen date. Factor a trip to an exam location into your plans from the outset.

Q: Where can I sit the Level 3 exam?

A: We run Level 3 exams in Napa CA, Tampa FL, Nashville TN, Denver CO, Chicago IL, Jersey City NJ, Santa Barbara CA and San Antonio TX. Napa hosts dates most frequently; the other locations run at least quarterly. Current dates are on our WSET Level 3 exam dates page, and seating per sitting is limited.

Q: Is the wine tasting kit included?

A: No. Tasting kits for both courses are optional add-ons sourced separately through our partner Small Lot Bottles - 12 x 100 ml samples for Level 2 and 24 x 100 ml for Level 3 - and you should allow 7 to 10 days for delivery. A recommended wine list is provided for each course if you would rather source the same styles locally, which many students do. Printed textbooks are also optional extras.

Q: How much study time should I expect across the two levels?

A: WSET specifies a minimum of around 28 hours for the Level 2 Award in Wines and 84 hours for the Level 3 Award in Wines, so budget roughly 112 hours across the pathway. Level 3 is the significant step up, and its ten-week cohort works out at approximately eight to ten hours a week.

Q: Which exam should I be most worried about?

A: The Level 3 theory paper, and our own data says so. From 3,016 graded Level 3 sittings between 2023 and 2026, 60.2% of our candidates passed the theory paper while 89.8% passed the tasting. Level 3 is graded in two independent components and you need 55% in each, so a strong palate cannot compensate for a weak written paper. Weight your study toward the writing.

Q: What happens if I do not pass one of the exams?

A: You can resit without retaking the course. A Level 2 resit is $220. At Level 3 the components are graded independently, so a partial pass means you only resit the one you failed - $225 for a single component or $280 for both - and there is no deadline on a Level 3 resit. Resit fees are not covered by the bundle price.

Q: Can I split the bundle with a partner or colleague, one level each?

A: No. Both courses in this bundle must be used by the same student, and the qualifications are issued in that student's name. If two of you want to study together, enroll separately - our group pricing gives 5% off for two students booking together on our standalone courses.

Q: Can I cancel or get a refund?

A: The two halves work differently. Your Level 2 On-Demand access is issued immediately on enrollment and is non-refundable and non-transferable from that point, as with all our on-demand courses. Your Level 3 cohort follows our instructor-led terms: you may cancel or transfer it up to 14 business days before the cohort starts, with a $50 administration fee and any balance issued as store credit, and no refunds or transfers are available inside 14 business days or after it begins. Our General Policies page carries the full terms.

Q: I already hold WSET Level 2. Should I still buy this?

A: No - buy the WSET Level 3 Award in Wines course on its own at $1,099. You would gain nothing from repeating a qualification you already hold, and the bundle only makes financial sense if you genuinely intend to take both levels. We would rather point you at the cheaper option than sell you a certificate you have already earned.

Q: Can I speak to someone before enrolling?

A: Yes. Email support@napavalleywineacademy.com and our student support team will help you judge whether the pathway suits your starting point, which Level 3 cohort fits your schedule, and whether the On-Demand or instructor-led Level 2 is the better fit for how you learn.
