Germany / Alsace Wine Study Trip
Join Master of Wine Romana Echensperger, one of the world's foremost German and French wine experts, on this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to explore firsthand the vinous connection between Germany and France. Germany and France have a lot in common, especially regarding wine.
On both sides of the Rhine river, grape varieties such as Riesling, Gewürztraminer, and Pinot Noir are cultivated. Pinot Noir made its way in the Middle Ages from Burgundy to Lake Constance and up the Rhine to the Rheingau. German immigrants invested in Champagne, contributed to the region's success, and brought the love of sparkling wine back to the old homeland. On this trip, we will focus on the "German-French-Connection" and travel from the Pfalz region to Baden and then Alsace. We will taste Riesling, Pinot Gris, and Gewurtztraminer wines expressed in their French and German interpretations.
We follow the tracks of the great German Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir) and taste why Sekt (German Sparkling Wine) is the next big thing in Germany and beyond. In addition, we will also explore the area from a culinary point of view and see that German cuisine cannot be reduced to sauerkraut and bratwurst. A gastronomic highlight will be dinner at Schwarzer Adler, a legendary one Michelin Star restaurant.
