This is a dual-phase qualification pathway engineered to maximize academic preparation before you step foot in Napa Valley. By shifting your foundational studies to our dynamic online portal pre-trip, your time on the ground in Napa Valley is strictly reserved for the essential, in-person experiences that define the full program. As you walk vineyards with viticulturalists and operate within production cellars alongside winemakers, you will be able to visualize the concepts learned in your book and online—hands-on engagement that is non-negotiable for understanding complex viticultural and vinification concepts.

Furthermore, your time is prioritized for a crucial exam preparation workshop. Here, you will undergo rigorous palate calibration with our certified WSET Level 3 instructors and participate in targeted, high-stakes drills designed specifically to conquer the most challenging component of the Level 3 exam: the short written answer questions. You will master the specific techniques and strategic insights required to pass this difficult section. In addition to this vital academic preparation, you will participate in active harvest operations and join an exclusive winemaker dinner to celebrate your learning journey.

You will conclude your journey by sitting the official WSET Level 3 validation exam on Day 5.

Format & Exam

Phase 1: Instructor-Led Online Study

Before arriving in California, candidates complete their comprehensive theoretical preparation via our interactive digital portal. Guided week-by-week with a dedicated NVWA educator to answer questions and host live webinars, you will master the macro-concepts of global wine production, wine law, and regional style drivers. The webinar schedule will be available later in 2026. Webinars will take place in 2027 and all of them are recorded if you can't join them live.

  • Rigorous Syllabus Tracking: Interactive modules, custom study trackers, mock quizzes and more ensure your core knowledge is razor-sharp.

Phase 2: The 5-Day Napa Valley Bootcamp & Exam

2 Days of Structural Tasting & Theory Workshops

  • Palate Calibration: Guided tastings and mock exams will help you refine your SAT writing and tasting skills, while calibrating to your certified WSET Level 3 educator.  Align your assessments of structural attributes (acidity, tannin, alcohol, and body) with examiner standards.
  • Short Written Answer Drills: Live, iterative drafting workshops where you learn how to answer numerous different types of essay questions, with critical tips and tricks for gaining top marks. 

2 Days of Active Harvest Bootcamp & Winemaker Dinner

A complete sensory immersion into Napa Valley estate vineyards and production cellars, meeting top winemakers and grape growers who will share their knowledge and answer your questions. 

Depending on the timing of grape development and harvesting, which changes each year (grapes are an agricultural product after all!), you may be immersing yourself in any number of winemaking and grape growing activities: 

  • Vineyard Field Work: Step into premier Napa Valley sites to evaluate row orientation, canopy management architecture, and grape growth in real time.
  • Crush-Pad Operations: Observe sorting protocols, pressing variables, pre-fermentation steps, and active fermentation cap management techniques firsthand.
  • Cellar Operations: ‘Barrel down’ finished wine from fermentation vessel to oak barrels; test brix levels or fermentation temperatures; be involved in a pump over or punch down or any other winemaking step occurring at the time of your visit. 
  • Exclusive Winemaker Dinner: A curated culinary and wine pairing experience hosted at a Napa Valley winery. 

Final Day: Official WSET Level 3 Examination

The culmination of your study path, administered in a disciplined, professional testing environment.

A 30-minute blind tasting examination requiring the accurate assessment of two unlabelled wines.

A 2-hour closed-book paper consisting of 50 multiple-choice questions and 4 structured short-answer questions.
