Wine Aromas – Le Nez du Vin Wine Sensory Courses

Do you want to improve your ability to accurately and more confidently identify aromas and flavors in wine while at the same time improving your tasting ability?

The Wine Aroma – Le Nez du Vin Sensory courses are open to anyone looking to enhance their ability to identify aromas and flavors of wine. These courses are appropriate and beneficial for all levels of wine knowledge whether this is your first wine class or you are preparing for a tasting examination.

Wine Aromas – Le Nez du Vin Intro to Wine Sensory Course

The Le Nez du Vin Intro to Wine Sensory Course teaches how to identify the aromas in wine and how to best memorize a large number of them, such as raspberry, blackcurrant, violet, green pepper, toast, vanilla, butter, etc. The 24 aromas/reference molecules presented in the course are directly linked to the molecular composition of red and white wine (including Champagne). They enable the 24 most common aromas found in red and white wine to be memorized and identified. Memorizing these aromas provides you an accurate and coherent vocabulary to further develop a common language so that you can better describe and discuss wines with industry colleagues.

This one (1)-day course covers 8 classic grape varieties and the flavor profiles associated with them. Your expert instructor will lead you through hands-on analysis of each grape variety. For each of the grape varieties, you will be provided with a selection of aromatic essences commonly associated with that grape.

You will also taste a total of 16 classic wines from classic regions made from the 8 grape varieties covered.  You will learn to identify the aromas in the glass and improve your tasting ability. This is a unique opportunity to dramatically improve your ability to taste, describe and identify wines.

During the one day of this course you will learn:

  • Techniques on how to personally develop your sense of smell
  • To identify over 24 key aromas commonly found in wine by using the Le Nez du Vin Aroma Kit.
  • The traits of 8 classic grape varieties through in-depth analysis of the aromas, flavors
  • To identify aromas and flavors in the glass by tasting 16 wines to illustrate the above varieties
  • To improve your ability to describe wines
  • To increase your objectivity and precision to describe wines

Wine Aromas – Le Nez du Vin Advanced Wine Sensory Course

Designed for the knowledgeable wine professional or anyone working in winemaking this course will teach how to identify and memorize aromatic molecules­ and their resulting aromas.

These molecules have various origins: barrel aging, fermentation, winemaking, hygiene issues, oxidation or reduction, aromatic precursors of certain grape varieties, etc. You will also learn to accurately identify the most common wine faults in wine and their causes.

  • linalool (Citrus Blossom),
  • 4MMP (box tree, passion fruit, black current),
  • 3-isobutyl-2- methoxy-pyrazine (herbaceous, bell pepper)
  • cis-3-hexenyl acetate (green, fruity)
  • allyl caproate (pineapple)
  • vanillin
  • and many more

This one (1)-day course covers the major aroma precursors and their possible origins Your expert instructor will lead you through hands-on analysis of each aroma precursor. For each of the major aroma precursors, you will be provided with possible causes and a selection of aromatic essences commonly associated with them.

You will also analyze a total of 16 classic wines from classic regions that highlight the aromas covered in this course.  You will learn to identify the aromas in the glass and improve your tasting ability. This is a unique opportunity to dramatically improve your ability to taste, describe and identify wines.

During the one day of this course you will learn:

  • To improve your ability to describe wines
  • To increase your objectivity and precision to describe wines

The Le Nez du Vin Advanced Wine Sensory course is open to advanced tasters and winery production staff that want to enhance their ability to identify the major aromas and flavors of wine and their causes. These courses are also appropriate and beneficial for students studying towards their WSET Diploma, Master of Wine, or Master Sommelier students who are preparing for a tasting examination.
