Drinking with the Valkyries with Andrew Jefford
Monday September 19, 2022 at 12 PM Pacific
Hosted by Catherine Bugue
Andrew Jefford discovered wine as a teenager in the UK, mainly by fermenting his own concoctions of carrots, apples, nettles, elderflowers and grape-juice concentrate. Thankfully he soon discovered his true genius as a wine writer, and has enjoyed a remarkable career as a poet, philosopher, author, radio presenter and journalist.
Described as ‘the most thoughtful person we have writing about wine’ by winemaker Randall Grahm, Jefford has written for Decanter magazine since 1988. His books include The New France (2002), Andrew Jefford’s Wine Course (2016) and Whisky Island (2019), a book about the Hebridean island of Islay. He has also published poems in The Spectator and The Independent.
In this special webinar, host Catherine Bugue will speak to Jefford about his latest book, Drinking with the Valkyries – a collection of his essays, opinions and articles gleaned from his fascinating observations from half a century of discovery.
Jefford acts as co-chair for the Decanter World Wine Awards, an academic advisor to The Wine Scholar Guild, and has won numerous awards including eight Louis Roederer Awards and eight Glenfiddich Awards. In 2016, he was named International Wine Columnist of the Year.
Jefford resides with his family in Languedoc-Roussillon, where he enjoys music and walking (he no longer makes his own wine.)
