CHATEAU MUSAR: A LEGEND IN LEBANON
Recorded Monday June 13th, 2022 at 10 AM Pacific
Hosted by Catherine Bugue
Chateau Musar is a study in contrasts…war and triumph, chaos and beauty, praise and obscurity. Although wine has been produced in Lebanon for 6,000 years, it was never recognized internationally until the pioneering work of Serge Hochar, the estate’s second generation winemaker.
The iconic Lebanese winery was founded in the 1930’s by Serge’s father, Gaston. Serge took the reins in 1959, dedicating 18 years to perfecting the formula for Chateau Musar’s Red. In 1984, he was recognized as Decanter Magazine’s first ‘Man of the Year’ for his dedication to producing superb quality wines during Lebanon’s Civil War (1975-1990). Influenced by Bordeaux, the legendary red and white blends have their own story to tell, expressing terroir with each new vintage.
Join us as we interview Marc Hochar, who manages operations along with his brother, Gaston. You’ll learn more about how they pioneered natural winemaking, and why his father reserved 50% of the production in the 1960’s.
We’ve teamed up with Pix.Wine to help you source the flagship wines that Marc will be tasting during the webinar.
